Dr. Steven Thompson was born on October 22, 1967, to Bobby and Merla Thompson in Indianapolis, IN. He is the fourth of seven siblings. Dr. Thompson was united in matrimony to JoAnn Clark in 1988. To this union were born four children: Jesse, Stephen, Jasmine, and Serena. Dr. Thompson was educated in Indianapolis Public Schools graduating from Perry Meridian High School. He furthered his education graduating from Indiana's only black Liberal Arts College, Martin University with a Bachelors degree in Religious Studies.
He later attended Indiana Wesleyan University earning a Masters in Ministerial Leadership. Dr. Thompson holds two honorary doctorate degrees earning his first on February 17, 2008, from Grace Bible College in Louisville, KY and another August 13, 2010, from Aenon Bible College in Indianapolis, IN. He completed the requirements for his Doctorate of Ministry degree in Pastoral Leadership on April 6, 2012, from Southern Theological Institute of Biblical Studies, Indianapolis, IN. Presently, he’s earning a 2nd Doctorate from Liberty University with concentrations.
Dr. Thompson is the founder and senior pastor of God's Grace Community Church, Indianapolis, IN. He began God's Grace with 7 people and now has over 450 parishioners in worship.He is an active mentor and pioneer of leaders. In August 2009, another organization was formed known as Christian Fellowship of Churches International, which currently has 35 pastors and churches in fellowship from around the United States and Africa. Dr. Thompsons' areas of strategy are in building lay ministers and pastors as well as lay leaders for ministry. In 2008, he co-founded God's Grace Community Church, Cape Town, South Africa with the overseer, Bishop Frederick Thys.
Dr. Thompson began his preaching ministry at the age of 20 and has since traveled the globe preaching and teaching the gospel with his unique ability to connect with people of various cultures. Dr. Thompson is a strong community activist and leader in the Indianapolis inner-city for cultural, economic and diversity change. He works with the Community Network of Concerned Clergy and sits on the Board of Operation Hope, Inc., a local not-for-profit group that is community-oriented in serving the homeless, jobless, ex-offenders, peer to peer training, family counseling, individual assessments, and the low-income community. He also oversees work for Operation Hopes' non-ambulatory transportation and charter bus service, Indy Friendly Travels, Healthnet (out-patient medical facility).
Dr. Thompson established Steven L. Thompson Ministries and published his first book "Leadership Principles To Live By” and "Marriage Is Like Mashed Potatoes” both in 2012. He travels sharing in seminars, preaching the gospel, and imparting into pastors and lay leaders.
